Matthew 5

Matthew 5.....
The Beatitudes. Beatitudes means blessings. These blessing from God go way deeper than chasing happiness in material things on earth.
V 3...poor in spirit means we are not self sufficient. That we recognize we can't do things on our own.
V4...mourn here is for our sin. We should grieve the sin that separates us from our God.
V5....meek means gentleness
V7....mercy is not getting what you do deserve.
V12....if people insult us because of Jesus we are living rightly. We are on good company with past prophets!
V13....salt is a preserver. As Christians we are the salt of the earth. Preserving Jesus and his name and glory to generations to come.
V 16....light shines through us....Jesus love we can show others. Don't hide it as this is the best example of Him we can give.....especially those who aren't so nice to us.
Murder...v21....murder is wrong but anger and bitterness against someone is the same as murder.
Adultery....v 27.....looking at someone lustfully is the same as adultery. Same as cheating in your heart.
Divorce...v 31...only divorce for marital unfaithfulness.
Oaths....v 33...don't say "I swear to God" as a way of getting people to believe you. Our character should tell others our yes is yes and our no is no.
Eye for eye....v 38... This was a law for civil cases.....not personal retaliation.
Love for enemies....v 43...when we love the unlovely....that's where people see Jesus in us. Loving the lovely is easy, but the unlovely is hard....but necessary.
V 48....be perfect....we will never be perfect until we get to heaven. Jesus is perfect and his word is perfect....so that is his standard. He knows we are sinners and died for us to be made perfect oNe sweet day!

  1. Love Vs 8 blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
God has taught me a lot through my grandchildren. They truly have pure hearts towards God. They think purely and ask pure honest questions and when we talk about God and read His word they just believe it. They see God in things in their daily lives. I love to hear them pray. They are simple and straight to the point. And they truly believe God hears and will answer. They don't pray then sit around and try to figure out something themselves (like we do more often then we should) They also know God sometimes says no and sometimes we have to pray a long time before God answers. Like with my daughter Michelle, they kids and I pray daily before school, and we prayed for over two years before God answered our prayers and blessed us with baby Liam. I remember Cara saying one time how long will it take for God to answer our prayer. I told her we have to just trust God and to continue to ask until God says no or answers our prayer. She said okay and that was it. So we kept praying. I believe when we are pure in heart (doesn't mean perfect, but that we are truly seeking to do His will and be in His will) we to will see God in our daily lives and really see Him when we read His word and seek Him in prayer.

  2. A little child will lead them.
When Zachary was about 6 years old he would tell us how much he wanted to be with Jesus. Everyday he said he couldn't wait to get to heaven that Jesus was there and he wanted to be there. He talked of it so excessively that we began to get concerned that he would run into traffic or something. He knew he had to die but knew that was only when God says so....but his excitement for Jesus and heaven was such a blessing.
When Ashley was 8 she fractured her wrist. Had to get a splint and the same night she was praying before bed. I happened to go past her room and heard her thank God for the break and the pain. My mouth about hit the floor. What kid is thankful for pain and a broken bone, but she knew all that happens was in Gods plan for us. Kids are amazing and help our faith grow too.
